The operator says that it is now continuing to take steps to prepare for a licence application in the newly regulated market, with hopes of being able to operate in 2022.
“This is in alignment with the company’s strategic ambition to further develop and grow its brands in locally regulated markets,” it said.
Prior to this point, Casumo noted that it had not been targeting Dutch customers, as part of the “cooling-off period” required in the Netherlands. Operators who apply for licences must have gone two years without targeting customers from the Netherlands.
Casumo’s announcement follows a number of similar withdrawals from leading online operators as regulated igaming begins in the Netherlands. Yesterday, Entain, Betsson and LeoVegas all announced that they would not take Dutch customers. Today, Kindred and 888 did the same.
Kindred said the move would cost it £12m in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) per month. It added that it believed it should still be permitted to accept Dutch customers provided it does not target them, but said it would block any of these customers until it receives legal clarification.
