Corbishley has spent the last four years working with the British Red Cross as its senior director of health and care. She has also previously worked within the NHS in numerous management roles linked to its voluntary and healthcare innovation sectors.

“As GamCare navigates the evolving landscape, Victoria’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our collaborations with the NHS as well as UKRI and OHID as the new prevention commissioner,” GamCare board chair Margot Daly said in a statement released today (27 February).

GamCare said in hiring Corbishley it is aiming to enhance accessibility and deepen its collaboration with key stakeholders, as well as to oversee and expand the group’s outreach, treatment and education services.

Speaking on the appointment, Corbishley said: “Last year alone, GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline received over 55,000 calls and online chats. The charity also directly delivered more than 9,100 structured treatment sessions, referred over 7,100 individuals to other regional support providers and 64,000 people participated in the charity’s education programmes.

“These numbers highlight the essential role GamCare plays in supporting those affected by gambling harms and reinforce our commitment to accessible, high-quality care.”

GamCare interim CEO steps aside

Corbishley is replacing D’Arcy Myers, who has acted as interim CEO of GamCare since August 2023. Myers took over the top spot from Anna Hemmings who had served as the group’s CEO for five years.

Previously, Myers led The Percy Hedley Foundation, Allergy UK and The Solicitors Charity. He was also chair of The Smallwood Trust and Association of Charitable Organisations.

In 2023, GamCare secured funding from the gambling support charity Gamble Aware. These resources enabled GamCare to operate for an additional three years. The charity has run the National Gambling Helpline for the past 25 years, as well as enabling the provision of digital tools to assist problematic gamblers.

Using that funding, the charity said it would look to improve its digital tools and the resources that support the National Gambling Helpline, including delivering greater regional services and treatment across London, Yorkshire and Humber, Scotland, the South East, East Midlands and the North East.

Last year, GamCare appointed Mark Weiss as the charity’s deputy CEO. Previously, Weiss spent seven years working at the UK Faculty of Public Health. He joined GamCare in 2022 and led the group’s communications and “external engagement” programme.
