Playtech COO Shimon Akad and Golden Matrix CEO Brian Goodman have worked together for years through a longstanding supply agreement and both businesses are working to strengthen their North American presence.

The market becoming more difficult to navigate in recent years, but both Akad and Goodman see plenty of opportunity in the US today, especially after the initial gold rush of companies fighting for market share dies down.

“There’s a graveyard of people who have tried and failed”

Goodman tells iGB@ICE host Katie Goldfinch: “At Golden Matrix we decided we didn’t want to operate in the initial stages in America because[…] there’s a graveyard of people who have tried and failed [in the market].”

He also touches on the US sweepstakes business, noting it is seeing decent returns from this vertical. Golden Matrix is also preparing to receive its New Jersey supplier licence soon, he adds. “We’d rather supply them than compete with them,” Goodman said of those operating in the Garden State.

Playtech’s Akad: Be realistic about the scale of the US challenge

Meanwhile, Playtech’s Akad also highlights the challenges of navigating the US market.

“When you go into the US market you have to be absolutely serious about what you want and you need to understand, because of the sheer size of it, and the different distribution of the states, you come into the US with a long-term strategy,” he notes.
