T
he Isle of Capri Lake Charles casino damaged by a hurricane last year is set to get a new name and reopen in fall 2022, announced parent company Caesars Entertainment Thursday, August 19.
The floating casino was hit by Hurricane Laura in late August, 2020. It is now expected to come back on land as Horseshoe Casino Lake Charles, featuring more than 60,000 square feet of gambling space, nearly 1,000 slot machines and table games, in comparison to prior 45,000 square feet.
Moreover, it is set to feature a WSOP Poker Room and a Caesars Sportsbook, and will also have a Brew Brothers Tap House.
Besides the hurricane damage, the venue was also hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, which meant operations have remained closed throughout all this time.
On the importance of the announced comeback, Tom Reeg, CEO of Caesars Entertainment, said: “We are excited to return to operations in Lake Charles in fall 2022.”
The Horseshoe Casino Lake Charles will be an “all-new resort experience”, with Reeg adding that the project will contribute to lead “the recovery of Lake Charles and its community.” The venue is also expected to feature a hotel tower with 253 rooms.

“Between the pandemic and the destruction wrought by Hurricane Laura, the challenges our team members have faced are unparalleled,” admitted Jeff Favre, senior vice president and general manager of Isle of Capri Lake Charles.
Despite the setbacks faced, the senior VP says the team is thrilled to take this step forward toward getting back to work serving guests.
The development of Horseshoe Lake Charles is expected to act as an economic driver for the region, and could see the creation of 300+ construction jobs, according to the company. Further details on the new gaming, hospitality, entertainment and culinary offerings are expected to be shared in the coming months, subject to Louisiana Gaming Control Board approval.
The Isle was the first riverboat casino in Louisiana to get approval from the Gaming Control Board to move onto land in 2019 and the casino was set to open in May 2021, before Hurrican Laura in late August.
