aesars Entertainment unveiled Thursday its first official renderings for Caesars Virginia, a $500 million resort to be built in Danville. The project is expected to break ground in December, according to a press release, and is anticipated to open in late 2023.

The proposed casino resort is set to include 500 hotel rooms, a state-of-the-art casino floor, Caesars Sportsbook, World Series of Poker Room, restaurant and entertainment offerings, and more.

The total $500 value sees $100 million up from initially anticipated in the Development Agreement, and a total of 500 rooms will be constructed, up from initially planned 200 rooms. Spa, pool and a fitness center are all set to be developed.

In terms of gaming, the casino will count with more than 1,400 slot machines and table games. Caesars Virginia will also feature 40,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, with an entertainment venue that can accommodate up to 2,500 guests.

Caesars Virginia will be an economic driver for the region, both as a tourist and entertainment draw and through the more than a thousand good-paying jobs the resort will create,” said Anthony Carano, President and Chief Operation Officer of Caesars Entertainment.

The company claims to have been hard at work developing plans for the venue following “incredible support” by the voters of Danville last November, 2020.

The people of Danville have entrusted us to build a world-class resort, and we look forward to proving that trust was well founded with an incredible resort worthy of the iconic Caesars brand,” added Carano.

The resort casino is expected to bring 900 construction jobs during the development period, and 1,300 new operation jobs to the area. Last year, the company estimated average compensations for full-time employees between $50,000 to $55,000, including tips and benefits.

Additionally, the City of Danville could see approximately $38 million each year in tax revenue that can be invested in local priorities.

According to Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones, the resort “will positively impact the community” through new tax revenue, jobs, partnership opportunities with local businesses and tourism dollars.

“We are confident that Caesars Virginia will honor the old Dan River Mills’ Schoolfield site and become a pillar of pride for Danville and its people,” said Jones, who also served as a co-chair on the “Caesars for Danville” campaign committee.
