T
he results of a survey on what MPs think of gambling will be revealed at the Reputation Matters event taking place on Tuesday, November 2. Over 100 Members of Parliament were part of the inquiry, which aims at revealing their opinion on different issues pertaining to the UK gambling industry.
The survey was conducted by YouGov and will be discussed at the event, which looks into the future of the gambling industry in the context of a gaming revision being carried out by the UK government.
The questions featured in the survey tackle topics such as whether the industry is properly regulated or not, or if certain companies act in a more responsible way than others. They also address gambling advertising, a hot topic as local media has reported the government is considering introducing new bans and restrictions on certain forms of gaming ads.

The review of the 2005 Gambling Act was first launched by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) in December 2020 and is set to determine gambling legislation fit for the digital age and revise gambling-related harms and addiction.
The government’s policy document outlining future legislation is due to come out at the end of 2021 or early in 2022, and will then be followed by a three-month consultation period before the bill goes to Parliament.
In late September, media started reporting that the UK government was considering a ban on foreign firms from advertising in shirts and pitchside hoardings in both the English and Scottish leagues.
It is reportedly also considering taking aim at the “white label” system by which overseas companies strike deals with teams, and a ban extended to UK-based firms could also be potentially introduced. The English Football League expressed concern about the ban’s potential impact on teams’ finances.
On top of discussing the game landscape to come following the review, the Reputation Matters event will also be looking at the view of the general public in order to see if it aligns with that of the MPs. The summit returns for a timely 2021 renewal at London’s Ironmongers’ Hall venue in London.
This edition, called “UK Gambling’s Future At Stake”, will kick off with a keynote speech from Rank Group CEO John O’Reilly and will assess how the sector can survive and thrive on the landscape following the Gambling Act review.
Other speakers and panelists will include Ian Ince (Playtech), Sue Albion (Flutter Entertainment), Steve Ketteley (Wiggin), Oliver Rowe (YouGov), Camilla Wright (Red Knot Communications), Dan Waugh (Regulus Partners), Adam Brickell (Flutter Entertainment), Gavin Kelleher (Goodbody), Kirsty Caldwell (Betsmart Consulting), James Harrison (Partis), Kelly Kehn (AlI-In Diversity), Richard Bayliss (Playtech), Kelly Perry (Edison) and Lawrence Gosling (ESG Clarity).
