Boyd Gaming‘s Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel in Vinton, Louisiana, opened its FanDuel Sportsbook at Delta Downs Racetrack, Hotel and Casino last month, with a ribbon-cutting event where NFL Hall of Famer Randy White placed the ceremonial first bet, wagering $20 on Dallas Cowboys over Washington.
“Most of the business does come from the Texas region, and we feel that this is what’s going to happen with the sports book itself,” Vice President and General Manager Steve Kuypers told KPLC last week. He said in their time running, they are already seeing success, the room filled on the weekends with repeat gamblers.
“The debut of the FanDuel Sportsbook is an exciting moment for all of us at Delta Downs, a new amenity for our guests and yet another reason to visit the property”, he said when the sportsbook opened on December 10, American Press reported.
Kevin Hennessy from FanDuel also said that the company has been “planning this move into the Louisiana market for some time. People in the state are crazy for their sports teams. We look forward to providing customers in Louisiana and Texas with a great game day, game night experience”.
“People can come in, place their bets at a kiosk and leave. Or they can enjoy comfortable seating in an area and watch the outcome of the game on one of Delta Downs’ many big-screen TVs”, he added.
Hennessy also reflected on the legalization of sports betting and the regulation and taxation of the market, as the state will now benefit while protecting the consumers.
The opening of this new sportsbook comes after the Louisiana Gaming Control Board approved an on-site sportsbook license for the Delta Downs Racetrack in Vinton in December, along with other four Boyd properties, thus bringing the number of Louisiana sportsbooks inside commercial casinos to 13 statewide.
Due to the property’s proximity to Texas, the Lake Charles-area is vital to Louisiana’s market as sports betting is illegal in the neighboring state.
In Louisiana, there are currently 13 operational riverboat casinos, along with one land-based commercial casino in New Orleans, and four racinos. The Vinton horse track, along with Evangeline Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel in Opelousas, also have been licensed to operate on-site sportsbooks. These two properties are owned by Nevada’s Boyd Gaming.
Even though sportsbooks at Louisiana casinos have been taking bets for some time now, mobile sports betting does not have a launch date yet. The Control Board chairman Ronnie Johns said he hoped to have it up and running by January. However, it might not be live until February, with the Super Bowl being the target.
Once the mobile betting business is on, bettors will be able to place their wagers through their phones or computers in the 55 of 64 parishes that authorized it last year in a statewide election. BetMGM and other online bookmakers are now going live with promotional campaigns, anticipating its launch.
