Gun Lake Casino in Michigan announced that, beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m., masks will no longer be required for visitors at the property. With this restriction ease, food and drinks will also be allowed at table games.
Even though the mandate has been lifted, their use is still promoted and recommended by the casino. So much so, it will provide free masks to anyone who wants one.
The decision follows MotorCity Casino‘s announcement last week that its mask mandate is lifting for those who are vaccinated, effective as of last Thursday. Masks are still required for players and guests who have not completed vaccination. It was the first Detroit casino to announce an end to its mask mandate.
At Gun Lake, however, some initiatives will remain in place, such as the smoking prohibition in all indoor spaces, the continuance of daily electrostatic cleaning of high touch surfaces, as well as the continued availability of sanitizing wipes and alcohol-based sanitizing gel to guests and team members. The Poker room will also remain closed.
The casino’s “Play It Safe” policy follows recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
The mask mandate lift comes as COVID-19 continues to decline across Michigan, and it follows actions and measures taken by schools in West Michigan while the CDC considers updating their mask guidance in the coming weeks.
Nevada casinos also lifted its mask mandate earlier this month. The Nevada Gaming Control Board and Gov. Steve Sisolak greenlit the removal of the mask mandate three days before the Super Bowl.
Since then, individuals are no longer required to wear a mask in public indoor settings in licensed gaming establishments unless a local jurisdiction still imposes it. “If a licensee is subject to a local jurisdiction’s requirement relating to masks, the board expects full compliance from the licensee”, the Nevada Gaming Control Board stated.
Back in September, Gun Lake Casino opened its $100-million, 72,000-square-foot expansion, which involves more seating for live concerts and sporting events, additional gaming space, outdoor entertainment, enhanced exterior features, dining space and more.
