Connecticut’s Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun reported this week a year-over-year decline in their April slot machine revenues. Foxwoods kept $29.7 million, which represents a 45% decline compared to April 2021. Mohegan Sun won $42.7 million, perceiving a 3.5% drop year-over-year.
The properties contribute 25% of their slots winnings to the state, resulting in a $7.4 million contribution from Foxwoods while Mohegan Sun gave the state $10.7 million in April.
The state’s Department of Consumer Protection published further data on last month’s numbers, showing that Foxwoods generated $9.8 million in gross online gaming revenue, compared to Mohegan’s $8.7 million. They paid 18% to the state, with Foxwoods paying $1.8 million and Mohegan paying $1.6 million. April’s total taxable gaming revenue for iGaming was $18.5 million, a 0.8% increase over the $18.3 million reported in March.
When it comes to online sports betting, Foxwoods generated $2.4 million in gross revenue, while Mohegan Sun saw $3.8 million. The Connecticut Lottery Corp won $388.561 in online betting, and generated $581,080 in gross gaming revenue at its retail sports betting locations.
Online casino gaming and sports betting added $4.3 million to the state’s coffers. Online casino gaming accounted for more than three-quarters of it.
These numbers follow March’s financial results, when both properties perceived a slight rise in their slot revenue. Both reports come on the heels of Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods’ announcements of their respective renovations and expansions in their facilities.
Mohegan Sun will expand through a $15 million investment destined for the construction of a VIP Lounge and other amenities, including upgrades to its most luxurious hotel suites and improvements to Mohegan Sun Golf Club in Baltic.
For its 30th anniversary, Foxwoods also kickstarted renovations at the property, which will include a new VIP Players Lounge located in the former Veranda Café, the opening of CardVault, a first-of-its-kind retail experience designed for buying, selling, trading, grading and consigning sports cards and collectibles, and more.
In addition, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which runs Foxwoods Resorts Casino in Connecticut, announced Tuesday the official launch of Wondr Nation, its newest venture in online gaming that replaces Mashantucket Pequot Interactive.
