iGaming technology company Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) announced Thursday it has been granted a supplier license for the Ontario iGaming and sports betting market, allowing it to partner with operators based in the newly regulated Canadian province.

Having opened as recently as April 2022, the registration marks “an early entry for GiG.” This new development will allow it to serve a market expected to grow to $6 billion in gross gaming revenue over the next three years, according to H2 Gambling Data.

The registration granted to the GIG by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) covers its B2B sportsbook and PAM. It also adds to the expanding list of regulated markets supported by GiG, 22 in total with another 4 pending, “further strengthening its ability to be the technical supplier of choice of those operators with aspirations for success in online gaming,” according to the company.

Claudio Caruana, general counsel for GiG, spoke about this newly granted license and said: “In receiving the registration from the AGCO, we have reached another important milestone in our resolute commitment to supporting the iGaming industry for regulated markets, and we’re delighted to be prepared to power new and potential partners in the province.”

During a recent exclusive interview with Yogonet, Canadian Gaming Association’s CEO and President Paul Burns said that the current total of more than 30 active operators in Ontario is expected to be doubled soon. “We’re hearing close to 30 more looking at entering in the application process,” he said. This would increase the number of potential partners GiG could seek to team up with in the jurisdiction.

Even though the market’s official numbers for its first quarter in activity have not been released yet, Burns explained that operators have been giving “very full of praise and very confident statements” about their performance up to date, providing an estimate of billion-ranging results.
