Station Casinos’ Durango Casino & Resort, its new $750 million project in the southwest Las Vegas Valley, is currently under construction. This week, a new milestone in the process will see the crews top off the 15-story, 318-foot tower, and will mark the addition of the final beam and pour the last floor of the hotel.
Work on the project began earlier this year and has progressed quickly, the company said in a new statement, as reported by Fox5 Las Vegas. The new resort is slated to open late in the fourth quarter of 2023.
According to a press release, over 1,600 construction workers will participate in the project. Over 1,200 full-time permanent positions will be filled upon completion of the property.
A private ceremonial groundbreaking for Durango Casino & Resort was held in March, which was attended by employees and executives including company Chairman and CEO Frank Fertitta III, Vice Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta, and new company President Scott Kreeger.
The ceremony marked the start of work on the new resort, in the southwest of the city. The new $750 million venue will feature a 200-room hotel tower and an 83,000-square-foot casino. Gaming options are set to include about 2,000 slot machines and 46 table games.
A scale model of the casino is currently on display at the company’s Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. The project will be set on 71 acres at Durango Drive and the 215 Southern Beltway at 6903 S. Durango Drive. The resort will also include convention and entertainment space, restaurants, a pool and a sportsbook.
In July, Red Rock Resorts announced it was set to permanently close and demolish three of its properties in Las Vegas with the intention to sell the land beneath them. The venues are Texas Station, Fiesta Rancho and Fiesta Henderson. The move was followed by Station Casinos’ acquisition of roughly 126 acres at the southwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Cactus Avenue for $172.4 million.
Demolition at two of the shuttered properties started mid-September, as the company kickstarted the process of redefining its real estate portfolio in Southern Nevada. The properties are Fiesta Henderson, off Lake Mead Parkway, and Texas Station on Rancho Drive in North Las Vegas.
It is yet still unclear when crews will demolish Fiesta Rancho, located at Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive in North Las Vegas, as well as the recently shuttered Wild Wild West on Tropicana Avenue west of Interstate 15. The latter was earmarked for demolition the past month.
