The Massachusetts Gaming Commission released Tuesday the financial results for the state’s casinos during September, a month that saw Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor generate $94 million in Gross Gaming Revenue.
Encore Boston was the top earner during the month, with $61.5 million in gross gaming revenue, as it made $32.9 million through its slots, and $28.6 million with its table games offering. MGM Springfield followed with total revenue of $20.5 million, with $16.3 million from slots and $4.2 million from table games.

Plainridge, a category 2 slots facility, saw its best September in four years, with revenues of $12.2 million for the month, up from $11.96 million in August and having surpassed its September 2021 revenue of $11.99 million. It was also the best since pre-pandemic September 2018, when it reported a take of $14.3 million.
The reported numbers by all three venues worked out to approximately $25.5 million in taxes in September. Plainridge is taxed on 49% of its gross gaming revenue. 82% of that amount is paid to local aid and 18% is allotted to the Race Horse Development Fund. MGM and Encore are taxed on 25% of their revenue, with their money allocated to several specific state funds as determined by the gaming statute.
To date, the state’s Gaming Commission says that Massachusetts has collected just over $1.2 billion in total taxes and assessments from the three venues since they opened.
