Bolivia’s Gaming Control Authority (AJ) informed that this year controls for online gambling will be increased, and a study will be carried out to know the consumption of gambling in the country. The announcement took place during the Initial Public Accountability 2023, last April 5, in the city of La Paz.
“One of the effects of the pandemic was the increase in unauthorized online gambling websites. For this reason, we will take the necessary precautions to remove these illegal activities that do not guarantee a fair and transparent game,” said Jessica Saravia Atristain, Executive Director of the Authority.
In addition, the authority will carry out a study to know the percentage of people who participate in gambling activities (land-based, online, and betting) in Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, La Paz, Tarija, and Sucre, cities which, based on statistics from the regulator, have the highest gambling activity.

In relation to modernization and technological development, Saravia Atristain pointed out that in order to improve services to the population, an intelligent search engine will be implemented to know the conditions of current business promotions and will integrate the systems of consultations, complaints, and demands.
With the purpose of reducing unauthorized business promotions, different campaigns will be disseminated, and workshops will be held for small and medium-sized companies to manage their business promotion projects with the help of the Authority in order to guarantee the legality of the activities carried out by the companies and ensure the rights of the participants.
Finally, the Director assured that due to some complaints received regarding the request for personal information from some companies, it will be guaranteed that the promotion projects related to holiday packages do not include conditions that allow the collection of confidential information from the participants and that the prize will be delivered as offered.
