The Washingtonian has recognized American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Bill Miller as one of the Most Influential People in Washington for the third consecutive time. The list is an annual compilation of the top people outside the government “who’ll be shaping the policy debates in Washington for years to come.”

“Our list is determined by several factors. We look for those who have deep subject-matter expertise and a significant understanding of how the nation’s capital works, with the goal of getting action. We want people who understand the nuances and complexities of a particular issue area. And we focus on policy subjects we believe are of special relevance right now to our slate of elected officials,” The Washingtonian said of its annual list.

About the selection process, The Washingtonian representatives explained that the list does not include big-name “hired guns,” elected officials, and Capitol Hill or administrators staffers.

Many of those selected have indeed served the government in some capacity, such as Alexandra Veitch, who worked for former senator Barbara Mikulski but now helps YouTube with public policy, or John Lettieri, a onetime GOP Hill staffer who today leads the Economic Innovation Group and pushes for better economic policies.

We believe that the people we’ve highlighted possess special insight into how to get an issue elevated. We also think some of the names here are likely to land in government in the future, either because of their ambition to serve or because they’ll be tapped for their expertise,” The Washingtonian stated.

This is Miller’s third consecutive time on The Washingtonian Magazine’s list of the city’s Most Influential People; other recognitions from publications include The Hill’s Top Lobbyists (2019, 2020, 2021).

Since joining the AGA in 2019, Miller has elevated the association’s influence in Washington, advanced key industry priorities, and deepened member engagement. Most notably, under Miller’s leadership, the AGA has navigated the gaming industry through the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has advanced efforts to strengthen the gaming industry’s commitment to responsibility, build a sustainable legal sports betting market, accelerate casino payments modernization, diminish the illegal gambling market, and initiate industry-wide efforts on diversity and ESG issues. Miller has also reinvigorated the Global Gaming Expo.

He has more than three decades of experience on Capitol Hill and representing business interests in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the AGA, Miller served as the top lobbyist at Business Roundtable.

Miller also spent time as a partner at the international corporate communications firm Brunswick. At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, he served as SVP and national political director. Early in his career, he served as chief of staff and campaign manager for Representative Constance A. Morella (MD-8).

Miller is a member of the U.S. Chamber’s C100 and sits on the board of the Ford’s Theater Board of Governors, International Center for Responsible Gaming, Public Affairs Council, and U.S. Travel Association. He is also a board member and the Finance Committee Chair for National Alliance to End Homelessness.
