UK gambling treatment support network GamCare announced that Anna Hemmings has stepped down from her position as CEO with immediate effect.
Hemmings, who served as CEO for the past five years, has decided to leave the organization to explore new opportunities. While a new CEO is being recruited, GamCare’s current Chair will assume an executive role and collaborate with the management team.
In response to her departure, Hemmings expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with the charity and the positive changes it underwent during her tenure. She stated: “In that time, GamCare has changed in so many positive ways that mean that tens of thousands more people who need support are reached than five years ago.”
Hemmings also expressed confidence in leaving the organization well-equipped for success. “I’m very proud of both the services and the staff and culture at GamCare, and I would like to thank all my amazing colleagues and the phenomenal network of stakeholders for their dedication and support during my time as CEO,” she added.
GamCare acknowledged Hemmings’ contributions as CEO, citing her efforts in strengthening both traditional and digital channels, diversifying education and support offerings, and enhancing the role of lived experience within the organization.
Additionally, officials recognized her accomplishments in expanding GamCare’s reach, while also navigating the challenges posed by the pandemic and the UK Gambling Act review. The organization thanked Hemmings for her service and wished her the best in her future endeavors.
Margot Daly, Chair of Trustees, praised Hemmings’ leadership and advocacy for those with gambling issues, noting that she has left GamCare “in a stronger position.”
“Her innovative approach to providing support in the way that people want and need has seen the utilization of traditional channels and also the development of new digital services that have – essentially and firmly put GamCare on the map,” Daly said. “On behalf of the charity’s board, I would like to thank Anna most sincerely for everything she has achieved to bring GamCare to this point.”
Brigid Simonds, Chair of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), also extended her appreciation to Anna Hemmings for her hard work as CEO of GamCare.
Simonds recognized Hemmings’ expertise in change management, which was instrumental in expanding the organization’s services beyond the helpline to establish treatment services throughout the UK.
