California’s Sky River Casino, operated by Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming on land owned by the Wilton Rancheria, has announced key changes to its leadership team. Industry veteran Michael J. Facenda has been appointed as the new president of the Elk Grove Casino.
Previously, Chris Gibase, a senior vice president at Boyd Gaming, had served as the casino’s president and chief operating officer. Gibase will continue as the casino’s chief operating officer alongside Facenda’s new role as president, Sacramento Business Journal reported.
Facenda brings over 35 years of experience in the gaming industry to his new position, having most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of Agua Caliente Casinos‘ property in Cathedral City near Palm Springs.
“Michael brings a wealth of experience to lead the Sky River team. His insight into guest services and team member relationships are paramount to drive the success of the property well into the future,” Gibase said.
Sky River Casino has also made additional changes to its leadership team. Clay Crawford, who had held the role of vice president of finance since 2021, is now the chief financial officer. Prior to joining the casino, Crawford served as CFO of investment firm Bridge Capital LLC.
Chief information officer and senior vice president of operations Matthew Morgan has transitioned to the role of senior vice president and assistant general manager. Jeff Jarvis, formerly the information technology director, is named the vice president of IT.
These leadership changes come following the casino’s one-year anniversary on August 16 and as it prepares for further expansion. The $550 million casino currently houses 2,100 slot machines, over 80 gaming tables, and 17 bars and restaurants.
During the anniversary, Sky River Casino said that it is set to add a whiskey and cigar lounge, called The Humidor, to its offerings next year. The lounge will be located next to the sports bar and pub, 32 Brews Street. There will also be a major on-site expansion, which will include a hotel, pool, spa, parking garage, and event space.
The casino is strategically located on 100 acres of Boyd Gaming and tribal-owned land in Elk Grove, positioned at the intersection of Highway 99 and Grant Line Road. Currently, the casino boasts a workforce of 1,600 employees.
