A Twitch streamer has been fined DKK 10,000 ($1,457) by The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) for advertising unlicensed gambling providers during their live stream. This marks the first instance of the Danish Gambling Authority taking action against a streamer for promoting illicit gambling services.
The streamer faced scrutiny for featuring a gambling provider on their stream without the required Danish license. However, neither the gambling provider nor the Twitch streamer has been publicly identified.
After authorities were alerted to this suspicious activity, the streamer was reported to the police for violating local gambling advertising regulations. Subsequently, the police concurred with the regulator’s findings and imposed the recommended fine on the streamer for the violations.
In addition to this case, The Danish Gambling Authority recently revealed that it has blocked a total of 49 illegal websites during its annual crackdown. The illegal websites blocked offered gambling such as betting and online casinos to Danes without a license since 2012, when the gambling market in Denmark was partially liberalized. In total, 276 illegal sites have been blocked since 2012.
Notably, Betfair also faced consequences for breaching Denmark’s Anti-Money Laundering Act (AML Act), receiving three orders and a reprimand. The company has been given a three-month deadline to address the first two orders and a 12-month timeline to submit the required documents for the third order.
