Online gambling group Betsson announced Thursday that it has been awarded a license to offer online sports betting on the regulated French market. The operations will be run in collaboration with a local partner, the group noted, with the launch expected to take place during the fourth quarter of 2023 under the Betsson brand.
The launch of sports betting on the regulated market in France is in line with Betsson’s strategy to grow through geographic diversification. Through a joint venture with a local partner, Betsson has obtained a license to offer sports betting over the Internet in this new market for the group.

Pontus Lindwall, President and CEO of Betsson AB, commented: “I’m pleased that Betsson has obtained a license to offer sports betting in France, which is an important gaming market in Europe with great long-term potential for online gaming.
“By combining our knowledge and experience as a global gaming operator with the local expertise of our partner, we can offer an unbeatable customer experience in sports betting in France.”
Betsson says that the development underscores the group’s commitment to delivering “exceptional gaming experiences on a global scale”, combining its six decades of international experience together with the proficiency and insights of a local partner.
Betsson’s sportsbook in France will be powered by Sportradar, supported by a Player Account Management system provided by OMEGA Systems. Moreover, the sportsbook will feature a range of enhancements developed by Goma Development, “designed to elevate the betting experience to new heights.”
Betsson notes that it holds gaming licenses in 20 additional jurisdictions and will continue to apply for licenses in the markets where local regulations allow competition “on fair terms” and where it is commercially viable for Betsson to operate.
