Bally’s executives discussed a timeline for employees, demolition, and construction of the Tropicana as the Oakland A’s transition to Las Vegas. According to Ameet Patel, SVP and Western Regional Manager for Bally’s, they are providing ways for current employees to find further employment ahead of the casino and hotel’s closure on April 2 of this year.
Patel said they plan to keep their employees until the closing date. He shared that the company has partnered with competitors on the Strip to widen the offer options. There is a job fair this Friday with county commissioners also helping. He told the board that there will be a job fair later this month only for Tropicana employees. 20 employers are expected to attend and they represent opportunities within downtown, off, and on the Strip, as reported by Fox5 Vegas.
According to Patel, about 26% of the workforce has stayed with the Tropicana for 20 years or more.
Marcus Glover
Furthermore, Marcus Glover, Executive VP and COO for Bally’s Corporation, said there hasn’t been a decision made yet on whether the Tropicana Las Vegas will have a ceremonial implosion. However, he said the site is expected to be ready to hand over to the A’s by April 2025.
“As soon as we can confirm what the plans are, we will share those publicly,” Glover said before the Nevada Gaming Control Board during a meeting Wednesday morning in Las Vegas.
The Oakland Athletics reached an agreement for a new Las Vegas stadium in May, which paved the way for the club to officially apply for relocation. The Athletics have plans to build a $1.5 billion baseball ballpark at the Tropicana site. The stadium would hold 33,000 fans. They hope to open the facility for the 2028 Major League Baseball season. On Tuesday, the team released updated renderings for the stadium.
By April 2025, Bally’s has to turn over 9 acres to the A’s, however, close to 30 acres at the Tropicana site would remain for possible future development.
“The site has to be ready by then,” Glover told gaming regulators. “That’s the initial timeline we’re working on. There’s an agreement on a master redevelopment plan; we want to bring something here that will make the city proud.”
Bally’s owns and operates the Tropicana. The company wants to build a new casino development on the same site that will house the ballpark, though Glover says there are no public renderings on that yet.
