The first edition of the Italian Gaming Expo & Conference (IGE), scheduled for April 18 and 19, has garnered high-level participation, set to draw representatives from regulatory bodies, government, parliament and industry leaders to discuss the future of gaming in Italy, with a strong emphasis on sustainability.

With over 60 speakers from various European countries and beyond, more than 35 content-rich sessions, and participation from over 30 companies and 10 institutions, including key regulatory bodies and international entities, IGE has set the stage for an insightful dialogue on the evolving gaming landscape, according to its organizers.

Institutions represented in the first edition of the event include Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli, CONI, AGCOM, Ministry of Home Affairs, MASAF (Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests), State Police, Italian Finance Police, Europol, Interpol, as well as the Italian Government and Parliament, with a strong presence of representatives of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Foreign regulators -such as the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority – and various international entities (such as EASG, G4, International Master of Gaming Law, International Association of Gaming Regulators, and United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports) will also participate in the meeting.

IGE, to be held at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rome, aims to showcase the state of Italy’s gaming industry, while also providing a platform for discussions on innovation and sustainability.

The event comes at a strategic time as Italy undergoes a reform process led by the government and parliament, aimed at rewriting regulations governing the gaming sector and issuing tenders for the renewal of concessions. Against this backdrop, IGE serves as a pivotal moment for stakeholders to shape the future of gaming in Italy.

After 20 years of gradual regulation, Italian gaming has become a sector of a high level and a source of innovation in the global industry, to the point of being imitated by other jurisdictions, the IGE said in a statement. A sector where risks, such as that of pathological drift or illegality, are “well known and taken very seriously.” They are the main focus of the regulator and the industry, which are both working hard to find new and smart ways to prevent these problems, says IGE.

Simona Clarizio, event manager, said: “This is why IGE talks about a sustainable future: because at the heart of every development there is consumer protection and the role that technology is able to play in this sense today. All topics widely addressed in these two days.”

Notable figures leading discussions at IGE include Lucio Lamberti, Professor of Marketing Analytics at Politecnico di Milano; Francesco Rodano, Chief Policy Officer at Playtech and former online gaming regulator; Quirino Mancini, President of IMGL; Ludovico Calvi, Honorary President of United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports; Gianluca Comandini, Italian entrepreneur and technology expert; and Matteo Caroli, Professor of International Business Management at Luiss Guido Carli University.

With Italy’s gaming sector attaining global recognition for its level of regulation and innovation, the inaugural IGE seeks to work as a milestone in fostering dialogue and collaboration towards a sustainable future for the industry.

The event’s Scientific Committee, comprising internationally renowned experts and scholars, underscores the commitment to driving meaningful discussions and shaping the trajectory of Italy’s gaming ecosystem, according to organizers.
