The Rio Hotel and Casino Las Vegas has announced the appointment of Patrick Miller as its new President and CEO. The development comes after the off-strip property said in April that its previous President was stepping down owing to health concerns.

Miller’s career spans around 28 years in the gaming and hospitality industry. In a press statement, the company noted that the new President has “a proven track record of success leading some of Las Vegas’ most popular Strip resorts.”

Throughout his career, Miller has held key positions within MGM Resorts International, including Senior Vice President overseeing the hospitality divisions at MGM Grand, New York-New York, Excalibur, Signature, and the Shadow Creek golf course.

He also served as the President and COO at Park MGM and NoMad Hotel, where he spearheaded the half-billion-dollar renovation of Monte Carlo to Park MGM.

Rio’s owner, Dreamscape, said Miller will play a pivotal role in transforming the property it took over last fall. Caesars completed the $516.3 million sale of the Rio to the New York-based company in late 2019, which started handling operations in October 2023.

Patrick’s extensive experience in the Las Vegas hospitality industry, including his many leadership roles at MGM Resorts, stands as a testament to his expertise,” said Eric Birnbaum, Chairman of Dreamscape, in the press release. “Having overseen the transition of Monte Carlo to Park MGM, Patrick is the perfect person to lead the total revitalization of Rio Hotel and Casino and its dedicated team members into the next chapter of this iconic property’s history.”

Dreamscape has set aside $340 million for remodeling projects since the acquisition of the Rio. These include suite upgrades, exterior LED light improvements, and changes to the gaming floor, among others.

Miller’s vision for the property aligns with Rio’s commitment to providing exceptional experiences at a value for every guest and creating a culture where team members thrive,” the company said in a statement.

Miller is taking over Trevor Scherrer’s role, who said he would step down owing to an undisclosed health concern in April. Miller is a Las Vegas native and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He serves on several philanthropic and business boards in the Las Vegas Valley.
