Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has named Sam Ullrich as the company’s new Vice President of Investor Relations. In this role, Ullrich will be responsible for all aspects of investor relations and work closely with current and prospective shareholders and analysts. He will report to Marcia Dall, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for CDI.
In a press release, Churchill Downs underscored that Ullrich brings 15 years of financial experience with publicly traded companies to the role. Before joining CDI, Ullrich was the Director, Commercial and Financial Planning, for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), a YUM! Brands (YUM) subsidiary.
Ullrich held numerous finance and accounting positions at both KFC and YUM until being promoted to KFC US. His long association with KFC started in 2015 as Manager of Restaurant Economics, two years after which he was promoted to Senior Manager of Financial Planning in September 2017.
Ullrich was named Director of Financial Planning Restaurant Economics at KFC in January 2019. He spent over five years in that post, while also assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on an interim basis in October 2022. While Ullrich was CFO, he was responsible for a $5 billion brand with approximately 4,000 restaurants across the country.
Ullrich began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the Assurance practice for several years based in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration in Finance. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Kentucky.
Churchill Downs expands footprint
Earlier this month, Churchill Downs cut the ribbon on the final major piece of the $290 million Terre Haute Casino Resort — its 122-room luxury hotel. The building opened its doors to the public just over a month after the casino’s grand opening.
At the time of the casino’s inauguration in April, CEO Bill Carstanjen told investors that he expected the hotel to give an even greater boost to the casino, which he says is already witnessing strong numbers.
