Until July 14, the Copa America, the most important soccer national teams competition in the continent, will be held in the United States. According to estimates from the Colombian gaming trade association (Fecoljuegos), the event will have a strong impact on the sports betting industry.
Based on a series of estimates by the Colombian entity, they expect an increase of 30% to 40% in online sports betting during the competition.
There are currently 15 authorized platforms in Colombia under the regulation of Coljuegos: Betsson.co, Codere.com.co,Fullreto.co, rivalo.co, Rushbet.co, Wplay.co , Yajuego.co, Zamba.co, Betplay.com.co, Sportium.com.co, Bwin, Luckia.co, Megapuesta.co, Wonderbet.co, Stake.
Evert Montero, President of Fecoljuegos, highlighted the importance of using regulated platforms to place bets. “We urge fans to use only authorized platforms. This not only guarantees the security of their bets but also contributes directly to the Colombian health system,” he stated.
“The Copa America represents a crucial opportunity for our industry. This projected increase reflects not only the enthusiasm of fans but also the growing confidence in regulated betting platforms in Colombia,” Montero added.
As of April 2024, online gambling has generated a transfer of COP 117,068 million ($28,136,357) to the health sector, representing approximately 40% of the total resources allocated by the industry to health and scientific research. In 2023, this figure reached COP 846 billion ($203,329,332).
