US casino giant MGM has announced that all Identity Tier Points for patrons of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas accumulated from July 30, 2023, to July 29, 2024 – will be doubled and transformed into MGM Rewards Tier Credits by July 30.

The development comes more than two years after MGM reached a deal to purchase The Cosmopolitan’s rights for $1.6 billion from private equity firm Blackstone. MGM said that it has bonuses planned for Identity members under the transition program.

The transition of the Identity Membership & Rewards program was initially supposed to take place in February but was eventually postponed. There was speculation that the delays were attributable to the cybersecurity breach that hampered MGM’s domestic operations last September.

All of your Identity Tier Points earned July 30th, 2023 – July 29th, 2024, at The Cosmopolitan will be DOUBLED and will be converted into MGM Rewards Tier Credits as of July 29th, 2024,” the operator said in a statement. “Table Games Points based on your Identity table play from July 30th, 2023 – July 29th, 2024 will also be added to your MGM Rewards account as bonus Tier Credits.”

Tier credits accrued via Identity tier points and table games play will be combined with customers’ existing MGM Rewards tier status to determine their status through January 31, 2026. MGM Rewards has five tier levels, including Sapphire, Pearl, Gold, Platinum, and NOIR, which is an invitation-only tier.

It takes 25,000 tier credits to get bumped to Pearl. From there, 75,000 points are needed to move to Gold, and Platinum requires 200,000 tier credits.

Terminology change to MGM Rewards

In the transition to the MGM Rewards program, the term “tier points” will change to “tier credits.” Patrons should also be aware of tier status timing.

MGM Rewards’ Tier Status Earning Year starts January 1 and ends December 31. During that time, earn Tier Credits to determine Tier Status for the current and following Tier Status Benefit Year, which runs February 1 to January 31,” noted MGM. “Tier Credits reset to zero annually on January 1.”

Another terminology change is that the Identity Points Cosmopolitan clients earned by playing slots, video poker, and other gaming machines are known as Slot Dollars under MGM Rewards.

MGM Rewards to provide Identity-earning opportunities

The benefit of Identity converting to MGM Rewards is that frequent guests of the Cosmopolitan will have more avenues for earning points and tier credits.

MGM customers can accrue points and tier credits at more than 20 Strip and regional casinos across the US and on the BetMGM app. MGM Rewards members can also earn redeemable points on “dining and hotel spend, including entertainment, spa experiences, retail and more,” according to the gaming company.
