Regulating the Game, a leading global conference on gambling law and regulation, has announced Dr. Marla Royne Stafford as the first Conference Chair for its 2025 edition, to be held in Sydney from March 10 to 13, 2025.

Dr. Stafford, a Professor of Marketing at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) and a recognized authority on responsible gambling, will chair one of the conference days. In her role, she will guide discussions, introduce key speakers, and help steer the conversation on key issues in the gambling sector, including policy, leadership, and emerging technologies.

“I am deeply honored and excited to serve in this leadership role at the 2025 Regulating the Game Conference,” said Dr. Stafford. “The conference is one of the premier annual events in the gaming world, featuring thought leaders and stimulating important discussions in a fast-moving industry. It is truly a privilege to be part of the organizing committee and help advance needed conversations in policy, regulation, leadership, ethics, and the future of the industry.”

Dr. Stafford brings extensive experience in gambling regulation and responsible gaming initiatives, including collaborations with the American Gaming Association and AMZC Limited. She currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling and is also a Faculty Scholar at UNLV’s International Gaming Institute.

Paul Newson, Principal at Vanguard Overwatch and an organizer of the event, welcomed Dr. Stafford’s appointment, saying: “The fact that we are attracting such distinguished figures to Chair a day of Regulating the Game is a clear testament to the conference’s expanding influence and significance in the industry. It’s an exciting time as we continue to bring together the brightest minds to shape the future of gambling regulation.”

Regulating the Game 2025 will once again bring together industry leaders, regulators, and innovators to discuss the most pressing challenges and opportunities in the gambling sector. Topics will range from safer gambling practices to the integration of blockchain technology and anti-money laundering efforts.

The conference has previously featured prominent figures in the industry as Guest MCs (Conference Chairs), including Andrew Gellatly, Executive Director of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, and Dan Rule, former EGM of Financial Crime Operations at Crown Resorts.
