Gentoo Media (formerly GiG Media) confirmed the name change from Gaming Innovation Group Inc. to Gentoo Media Inc. after approval in a shareholder meeting held on Monday.

The company, now named Gentoo Media Inc., continues its dual-listing on the Oslo Stock Exchange, Norway, with the ticker symbol G2MNO, and on Nasdaq Stockholm, Sweden, with the ticker symbol G2M, from 25 September 2024.

The company stated that the name change is a step towards the restructuring process of dividing the company’s media and platform divisions into two separate entities.

The legal split is expected to take place on Monday next week, where the platform and sportsbook division of Gaming Innovation Group will be spun off to operate as an independently listed company under the name GiG Software PLC, and will be listed on Nasdaq First North Premier Growth Market with the first day of trading expected 1 October 2024.

The name change from Gaming Innovation Group Inc. to Gentoo Media Inc., is a “big step” towards completing the legal split, spinning off the platform business and creating two independently listed companies.

“Whilst introducing our new company name, along with our new logo and visual identity we ensure that Gentoo remains the same great affiliate, with the same great people, and the same great brands that we have become recognized for,” the company had said back in June.

The new company name Gentoo Media pays tribute to GiG Media’s Rebel Penguin heritage, as the Gentoo is an Antarctic penguin species known for prospering by coming together as a unit to survive and thrive.
