The Netherlands’ gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has reaffirmed that the autoplay feature is strictly prohibited in the country. The autoplay function, which allows players to place bets automatically without manual input, was previously banned due to concerns over gambling addiction.
Dutch authorities have maintained rigorous regulations to curb features that could contribute to problem gambling.
Recently, the KSA took swift action after discovering that an unidentified online casino had yet to remove the autoplay option from its roulette tables.
The regulator issued a formal directive to eliminate the feature immediately and ensure compliance moving forward. The operator will undergo a full inspection before it is permitted to resume operations.
The KSA has also sent a letter to all gambling providers drawing attention to the ban on autoplay, in case they are utilizing software with autoplay features. The regulator emphasised that it is the provider’s responsibility to check software supplied by third parties for possible prohibited offers or game functions.
This enforcement comes amid other regulatory challenges for the KSA, including rising concerns over match-fixing in the Netherlands.
A recent KSA report revealed 13 potential cases of match-fixing in 2024—nearly double the previous year’s figures—raising alarms within the regulatory framework.
The Dutch authorities assured that it will continue to tighten oversight, ensuring that gambling practices remain fair and responsible in the country.
