With a recent appearance at the ICE Barcelona show and an ambitious roadmap for the upcoming months, SlotCycle is standing out in the industry with its unique approach to the secondary gaming equipment market. As a dedicated marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of pre-owned gaming machines, the company seeks to revolutionize how operators manage their gaming assets.

In an exclusive interview with Yogonet, Jeff Jordan, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of SlotCycle, reflected on the company’s proposition and its potential to disrupt the gaming equipment sector, highlighting the growing demand for cost-effective solutions and the role of the secondary market in optimizing industry resources.

You attended ICE Barcelona back in January. What were your main takeaways of this event? Did it feel different from previous shows being the first edition in the Spanish city?

It’s been a wonderful show. ICE in Barcelona seemed to gather a more diverse group of buyers, ready to explore what’s new in the industry. On the side of the sellers, there was an incredible variety, too — you had companies representing slots machines and gaming devices, but also the interactive side as well. All in all, it was a very good show.

It definitely felt different, because we were already used to ICE being held in London. There are some habits that you build when you visit the same city several times. Barcelona felt different because you now have to get used to the city, how to get around, the layout of the new exhibition floor. But it’s an exciting change.

What can you tell us about your participation in the show and the role it plays in SlotCycle’s growth trajectory?

This was the first year of SlotCycle at ICE, so the goal was to introduce the brand at the show and pave the grounds for further development next year. We are still in the process of introducing ourselves to a more international audience.

We closed a funding round at the end of last year at $5.6 million, led by Discerning Capital. Of course, obtaining the capital is essential for the growth of the business and accomplishing our objectives. But it was also good to go through this exercise because it reinforces that we’re here to stay and that we have good prospects, and that the business model is sound.

Can you provide us a brief overview of what SlotCycle does?

At its core, SlotCycle is all about connecting buyers and sellers of gaming equipment. We have two primary services. One is SlotCycle.com, a multi-sided marketplace where buyers and sellers can connect.

Then the other service that we offer is for those who want help selling their equipment. We offer a consignment service where we take in the inventory, try to figure out how to sell it, and make money off of it. When we sell it, we put it in the marketplace to fulfill those transactions.

What markets are showing interesting interest in the services that SlotCycle provides?

When we started the company, we said: “Oh, we need to get supply from the US so that we can then sell it into other markets.” That’s been true. We’ve seen growth in terms of moving equipment for our sellers into Latin America, Asia, and Africa

But we have also seen growth in terms of selling within the United States. There is a pretty healthy and vibrant secondary market for slot machines and parts. Our participation in that has been a bit surprising because we realized that the market is bigger than we thought.

SlotCycle has a service center in Las Vegas, correct? Can you tell us a bit more about it?

Yes. We have a 35,000 square foot facility. What we do there is take in equipment — slot machines, parts, and other gaming equipment — and try to figure out how to sell it.

In some cases, for us to sell it, we have to put in what we call refurbishment. For example, we recently had a casino buy a thousand validators. We fixed them before we shipped them off. We also fix slot machines and ship them off into different markets on behalf of our customers.

What should we expect from SlotCycle in the months ahead?

You’ll see us become more outward bound outside of the US. You’ll see more presence in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. We’ll expand offices and distribution into those countries to help our sellers. You’ll also see more vibrant branding and campaign around SlotCycle.com, trying to get users and transactions on the platform.

Lastly, you’ll see us hiring. We’ll be out recruiting people, trying to get really good talent and reach after the opportunities that are in front of us.
