
The General Directorate for the Regulation of Gaming (DGOJ), the Spanish iGaming regulator, issued the Annual Report on Online Gaming for 2024 and informed that, during that year, the industry recorded Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of EUR 1,454.59 million, equivalent to USD 1,571.6 million.
According to the report, the GGR for 2024 also meant an increase of 17.61% compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the number of active players was 1,992,889, 21.71% higher than in 2023.
When analyzing gross revenues by segment, Online Casino reached EUR 730.3 million (USD 789.3 million) and 50.23% of the total; Betting, EUR 608.85 million (USD 658 million) and 41.86%; Online Poker, EUR 100.08 million (USD 108.14) and 6.88%; and Bingo, EUR 14.94 million (USD 16.14 million) and 1.06%.
Revenues by segment
In the Online Casino segment, there was a year-on-year growth of 16.96%, caused mainly by the performance of slots. “Since its implementation in 2015, it has led to increasingly higher casino market shares compared to the other segments,” the DGOJ explained.
In addition, there was a year-on-year increase in live roulette, with 10.41%, and blackjack, with 3.8%. Meanwhile, conventional roulette showed a drop of 8.46% this year.
The Betting segment, on the other hand, presented a growth rate of 23.8%. The growth, according to the report, is due to conventional sports betting, which increased by 23.69% in the last year, and live betting, with 24.05%. In 2024, the other counterpart betting market also increased by 33.45%, and horse betting decreased by 16.99%.
On the other hand, Online Poker registered a 4.99% year-on-year drop, mainly due to the 3.48% decrease in tournament poker, which also represents 73.58% of this market. In turn, cash poker decreased by 8.97% compared to the previous year and accounted for 26.42% of the market.
It should also be noted that, since the opening of shared liquidity for poker with France and Portugal in January 2018, six platforms have been established in Spain.
Finally, Bingo grew in 2024 with a variation rate of 3.96%, while contests experienced a decrease of 98.53% in the annual variation rate.

The Spanish online regulator also reported that marketing spending in 2024 was EUR 526.3 million (USD 568.7 million), broken down into affiliate spending of EUR 56.32 million (USD 60.9 million); sponsorship of EUR 5.45 million (USD 5.9 million); promotions of EUR 261.53 million (USD 282.6 million); and advertising of EUR 203 million (USD 219.4 million).
The monthly average number of active accounts was 1,433,715, an increase of 23.48% over the previous year. The monthly average of new gaming accounts was 151,898 users, with an annual growth of 34.73%.
Finally, deposits and withdrawals maintained their upward trend in 2024, increasing by 19.62% and 19.73%, respectively, compared to 2023.
