As reported by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission Tuesday, gaming revenues for Massachusetts casinos were up at the top last month, as MGM Springfield, Encore Boston Harbor, and Plainridge Park Casino combined generated nearly $100 million in revenue; of which about $26.5 million are due to the state.

Of the $95.65 million in gaming revenue produced in December, Encore Boston Harbor was responsible for having pulled in $62.4 million, two-thirds of the statewide total. December is now ranked as the second-best month in terms of revenue for Wynn Resorts‘ Everett casino that opened in June 2019, followed by October 2021’s $62.8 million total.

MGM Springfield reported having generated $22.2 million in gaming revenue last month, which represented the highest monthly total since July 2021 and became its first second best-month since March 2019. MGM’s table games, including the only legal poker tables in the state, saw $5.53 million in revenue last month. This is the second time it produces more than $5 million in a month since the beginning of the pandemic.

The slots parlor at Plainridge Park reported having pulled in about $11.05 million in December, about 7.02% of the $175.3 million that gamblers put into the slot machines last month.

The $95.65 million in monthly gaming revenue for December translates into about $26.56 million in tax and fee revenue for the state. Encore and MGM are each taxed at a rate of 25% of gross gaming revenue. Encore gave the state $15.6 million, and MGM $5.55 million last month. Plainridge Pays a 49% tax on its gross gaming revenue, which in December accounted for $5.41 million.

Back in October, Massachussetts casinos broke their own July record, generating a combined $95.98 million in revenue. That month, the record was driven by Encore, which reached the $60 million mark for the first time and contributed $62.8 million for the month, about 65% of the statewide total.
