Wynn’s Encore Boston Harbor might not resume live poker

ccording to the Encore Boston Harbor, there is no intention to bring back live poker to its resort casino in Everett, at least in the immediate future.

As discussed on Thursday, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission addressed the complaints it has received since neither the Encore nor the MGM Springfield casinos -the only two in the state- have reintroduced poker since its normal operations resumed in May.

Both casinos have said they will revisit poker by the end of the year, but they might encounter pressure from the Commission for prompter answers.

Encore Boston Harbor said in a statement Thursday evening that it is “aware and sensitive to our guests’ disappointment”, speaking in terms of the extended period of time without poker.

“Based on current market conditions and the resulting need to prioritize space, Encore Boston Harbor will not be bringing back live poker at this time. If and when poker should return to Encore, it will likely be at a reduced capacity,” Encore said in a statement, adding that the casino will re-assess as business normalizes, The State House News Service reports.

Deputy director of investigations and enforcement at the Gaming Commission, Bruce Band, said casinos are mindful of its profit potential in contrast with other gambling offerings in the same space. 

“I think both of them are actually waiting to see what happens with sports betting and space and forging ahead. It’s kind of a wait-and-see for both properties”, he said.
