Ohio’s casinos and racinos set yet another monthly record for revenue in March, for the third time in three months. Data from Ohio’s Casino Control Commission and the Lottery Commission shows that the state’s 11 casinos and racinos earned $217.7 million in gambling revenue, breaking the $216.3 million mark established in March 2022. These totals do not include money wagered on sports or at horse races.
The state boasts four casinos and seven racinos that have brought in a combined revenue of $611.6 million in the first three months of 2023. The gambling establishments had recorded $566.4 million in revenue during the same time in 2022 and went on to break a yearly record, reports Cleveland.com.
Ohio has recorded an increase in gambling revenue each year since the first state casino opened in 2012, except for 2020, which was due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The four casinos in Ohio, which can offer slot machines and table games such as blackjack, brought in $95 million, an increase from $93.3 million in March of the previous year. The state’s seven racinos, which are gambling establishments at horse racetracks that can only offer slot machines, earned $122.7 million, just breaking even in comparison to 2022.
Gambling revenue is the money kept by the gambling houses after paying out winnings but before state taxes and fees. Sports betting, which was legalized earlier this year, is counted separately from casino and racino revenue, and further attracts customers to gambling locations. A physical sportsbook is available at each casino and racino.
MGM Northfield Park led March with $26.4 million in revenue, followed by JACK Cleveland Casino at $24.4 million. Close behind, Hollywood Columbus posted $24.3 million, rounding out the top three.
