The breach was identified in March this year when the individual notified the Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority that he had been able to access their account. This came after he registered with the country’s self-exclusion scheme in October 2022.
An investigation by the regulator found the player self-excluded on 31 October last year. However, the individual gambled online with Top Sport on 11 November and again on 22 November.
The Authority also noted that the player was allowed to remain logged in to their Top Sport account after self-excluding.
Paragraph 21 of Article 10 of Lithuania’s Law on Gambling requires licensees to block access to anyone who has signed up to the country self-exclusion scheme. This included stopping them from logging in to their account.
As such, the regulator ruled Top Sport breached this law and issued the fine. As with all cases in Lithuania, the decision could be subject to an appeal.
Further breaches by Top Sport
This marks the latest sanction for Top Sport following a series of other regulatory breaches.
Earlier this year, Top Sport was handed three separate fines in the space of a week by the Authority.
The first was in relation to allowing underage individuals to enter one of its slot salons. For this, Top Sport was ordered to pay a €25,000 fine. The following day, Top Sport was fined a further €15,000 after it breached regulations on mobile betting.
The third and final fine that week amounted to €15,000 for a breach related to payments and depositing into an online account.
