The Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation, in collaboration with 4 Bears Casino, DSGW Architecture, and Woodstone Inc., have officially initiated construction with a ground blessing ceremony for the forthcoming Son Of Star Casino in White Shield, North Dakota.

Spanning 37,000 square feet, the Son Of Star Casino is scheduled for launch in 2026, Minot Daily News reported. It will be strategically located just south of the powwow grounds and will feature 230 slot machines, six table games, a sportsbook, poker room, restaurant, gift shop, campground, and coffee shop. Future development phases will encompass the addition of a convenience store, hotel, and event center.

A key emphasis of the casino’s design is to honor and embody the culture and heritage of the MHA Nation. The exterior of the structure will feature a traditional Native American design, while the interior will be adorned with Native American art, historical timelines, and artifacts. The interior layout will be divided into four quadrants symbolizing natural elements – fire, water, earth, and wind.

“We are honored to have worked with the MHA Nation to create this new casino,” DSGW Principal Erik C. Wedge was quoted as saying in the report. “The casino is a beautiful and welcoming space that will provide both entertainment and economic opportunities for the MHA Nation and the surrounding community.”

DSGW Architecture, a firm that specializes in indigenous architecture, is overseeing the project. DSGW has undertaken more than 400 tribal projects across 14 states over the past 40 years, having collaborated with over 40 indigenous communities to plan, design, and construct facilities ranging from community centers to clinics and casinos.

Anticipated to serve as an economic catalyst, the new casino is poised to generate employment opportunities and substantial revenue for the MHA Nation. Furthermore, it is expected to draw tourists from across the nation, stimulating the local economy.

“Having a casino in White Shield offers the framework to generate and foster economic growth, achieve sustainable employment, and promote tribal tourism. It’s a win-win for the tribe and the surrounding area,” East Segment Councilman Fred Fox was quoted in the report.
