The upcoming Macau Gaming Show & Summit (MGS) is gearing up to make a grand return to Macau next week, with aspirations to attract over 5,000 professionals in the casino industry.
Organized by the Macau Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Association (MGEMA), the 2023 edition, themed ‘The Asian Pioneer Returns,’ is scheduled for November 14 and 15 at the Galaxy International Convention Center, Galaxy Macau.
After a hiatus due to Covid-related travel restrictions, this year marks the revival of the physical format for MGS. Jay Chun, Chairman of MGEMA, expressed the significance of this return during a recent press conference, stating: “We aim to tell the ‘Macau Story’ from the perspective of leisure and technology.”
The last in-person MGS event took place in 2019, predating the Covid-19 pandemic. Hindered by travel restrictions, the event faced cancellations in 2020 and shifted to an online format in 2021 and 2022.
“With the purpose of providing a platform for local participants and global industry players to discuss and exchange ideas, we hope to explore innovative solutions for the entertainment, technology, and tourism industries of Macau,” Chun added. “This will better support Macau’s economic recovery in the post-pandemic era and enhance the city’s appeal as a global tourism and leisure centre.”
Spanning over 3,000 square meters, the exhibition floor for the 2023 MGS will host around 35 exhibitors. Primarily, these exhibitors will comprise gaming equipment suppliers and integrated suppliers, including technology firms. The event is also set to showcase seven to eight Macau small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), specializing in areas such as robotics and virtual reality (VR).
In addition to the exhibition, the event will feature a one-day conference program on November 14, bringing together industry leaders and experts. The discussions will revolve around various topics, including challenges faced by Macau players in the post-Covid era, industry innovations, and opportunities and challenges in the regional landscape.
The conference program will include a keynote address by Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of Galaxy Entertainment Group. Two panel sessions are scheduled, featuring representatives from Macau’s six gaming operators and major gaming equipment manufacturers, with Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China, among the panelists.
Furthermore, three presentations on November 14 will include one hosted by Wang Changbin, Director of the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies at Macau Polytechnic University.
