Revenue was 7.6% more than $515.3m in Pennsylvania in March 2023 and beat February’s total of $449.1m by 11.1%, It also surpassed the existing monthly record of $534.2m set in December last year.

Retail slots were again the main source of revenue, generating $227.9m during March, a rise of 1.1%. This came despite the number of slot machines declining from 25,643 to 24,886.

However, revenue from land-based table games fell 0.8% to $85.2m for the month.

Record month for igaming in Pennsylvania

Looking to the online market and total igaming revenue amounted to $191.1m, up 29.0% and a new monthly record. 

Online slots revenue increased 29.3% to $135.5m, while internet table games revenue was also up 31.2% to $53.1m. In contrast, online poker revenue was down 14.4% to $2.5m for March.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course retained the lead in this segment, posting $72.3m in igaming revenue. Valley Forge Casino Resort was again second, reporting $50.8m, then Rivers Casino Philadelphia on $32.8m.

Further decline in the sports betting market

While igaming growth will come as good news for Pennsylvania, the same cannot be said for the sports betting market. 

Revenue here was 10.0% lower year-on-year at $45.6m, following a decline in February. Of all March revenue, $42.3m came from online betting and $3.2m retail.

This came despite player spending increasing by 10.7% to $723.5m for the month. 

Valley Forge Casino Resort, along with partner FanDuel, remains some way out in front in Pennsylvania. Revenue for March amounted to $24.4m, with players wagering $333.2m.

Hollywood Casino at the Meadows and DraftKings again placed second on $10.7m from a total of $209.2m in bets. Hollywood Casino Morgantown, which works with BetMGM, was third on $1.8m from $51.9m.

In terms of other gambling activity in Pennsylvania, video lottery terminal revenue was down 0.5% to $3.7m. Fantasy sports revenue dropped 21.1% to $1.1m.
